“How much more money is needed to finish building Robur, and what still needs to be done?”
The total budget is 192,000 euros. In 2018 we had already financed 162,000 euros, at the beginning of 2019 we had 177,000 euros. So Robur is almost there, but not quite.
Chart at the beginning of 2019:
We still need another 15,000 euros to finish building Robur. The rest is already guaranteed.
Robur is self-built as much as possible, together with friends and supporters. Thanks to all those generous helping hands Robur is growing and his healing energy is flowing into the world. But we are bound by building regulations and need to complete the project by a certain deadline to keep the building permission, so we have to hire in help, too. The final cost price depends on how much time the authorities allow us, and on how much help and know how the volunteers can put in.
By the end of 2019 Robur must be finished, and with enough money we should be able to make that!
Originally we wanted to save a lot and work as sustainably as possible by re-using materials. In real life, that proves to be rather disappointing, often the transport costs too much extra or it isn’t ecological enough, and it takes a lot of organising and time which we don’t have in the time framework the authorities have set us. Sometimes new materials proved cheaper (transport included) than second-hand…
We did manage to cut the trees we had to fell, and we use the planks and trunks in the building.
The savings our project leader invested were enough for the initial works, but are running out now. So all little contributions to realise this healing project are very welcome!
Your donation will be used for (ecological) parts of the building and everything it entails. Here is a list of the expenses we still have to fund (situation in Summer 2017):
- Finishing the windows and doors + skylight: 20,000 euros
- Walls and floors (hempcrete – this was a workshop – see calendar): 10,000 euros
- Insulated kitchen floor**: 2,000 euros
- Rocket mass heater: 5,000 euros
- Electricity: 3,000 euros
- Plumbing: 7,000 euro
- Mezzanine (storage): 2,000 euros
- Green roof: 5,000 euros
- Finishing the building: 3,000 euros
- Interior decoration (furniture etc.): 5,000 euros
- EPB-report + fine***: 10,000 euros
- Unexpected costs and running recurrent costs: 3,000 euros
TOTAL rough estimate of costs: 75,000 euros
In a later stage a heat pump (one of the most ecological solutions nowadays) was planned for people who find the rocket mass heater (slightly comparable to a tiled stove) difficult to use. But due to unexpected circumstances the heat pump came first… see the blog for more explanation!
* You can support Robur at The Oak by taking part in a workshop, where you will also learn a lot about building with hempcrete and other ecological building materials.
** There is a cool space under the floor, that should theoretically eliminate the need for a fridge
*** The EPB story and the fine the organisation needs to pay, are consequences of our principal choice to build ecologically, freely and without corruption. If you would like more explanation (it is a large sum after all), Marieke is available to explain things.
Sadly, Robur at The Oak is not eligible for any green grants.
We need your help to raise the last 15,000 euros!
Don’t be shy, every little bit helps to realise this wonderful project, both money and in kind!
